TIP#1

Problem: After installing Skype I get a reset error when trying to access any module in MLXchange by using the Menu bar. How can I correct this?

When you install Skype, you also install the Skype add-on for Internet Explorer. The add-on turns phone numbers on websites to buttons which you can click to call from Skype.  This add-on is the component that also causes the menu items in MLXchange to not function. "Turning off" the add-on by clicking the Skype icon on the menu bar does not correct the problem.  Correcting the problem requires disabling the add-on by either of the following methods.

  1. In Internet Explorer, go to Internet Options>Advanced and uncheck "Enable Third Party Browser Extensions". Make sure you close all browser windows before attempting to access MLXchange after disabling this feature. This action will also disable other third party browser add-ons.

  2. Remove the browser add-on using the "Add/Remove Programs"

    a. Make sure all browser windows are closed
    b. Go to Start > Control Panel or Start > Settings > Control Panel
    c. Open Add/Remove Programs
    d. Locate "Skype add-on of Interner Explorer" and remove

During the installation of Skype, you are given the option not to install the Internet Explorer add-on. Choosing not to install the add-on will allow the menu bars in MLXchange to function properly.  If you choose to not install the Skype add-on or later remove the add-on after its installation, it will not affect the use of the main Skype program.

TIP#2

When will MLXchange work with Windows Vista?

MLXchange will work with Vista/Internet Explorer 7 right now, provided there are some changes made to the default settings on Internet Explorer 7.

You will first need to disable "Protected Mode" in Internet Explorer, which is enabled by default, to allow installation of ActiveX. To disable "Protected Mode" follow the instructions below:

The following change needs to take place in Internet Explorer 7

  1. Uncheck "Enable Protected Mode" located in Internet Options. (This option is checked by default)

    • In Internet Explorer, go to TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS
    • Click on the Security Tab
    • Locate "Enable Protected Mode" and uncheck it
    • Click "OK" twice until you return to the main window of Internet Explorer
    • Close all Internet Explorer windows

  2. Install all ActiveX components required for MLXchange

    • Click on the following link http://stwmls.mlxchange.com/tools/axinstall/axinstalltool.asp to open the ActiveX installation page.
    • Click the "Install" button. If prompted, click "Run" or "Install".  If an information window opens, click OK and locate the "Information Bar" which opens directly under the Main Menu bar of Internet Explorer and click "Install Blocked ActiveX". Click "Run" or "Install" whenever you are prompted during this installation.
    • You will need to click "Install" for each of the 10 components being installed
    • There will be a red check mark after each successfully installed component

Once all the ActiveX components are installed you can now "SIGN IN" to MLXchange. The first time you attempt to "SIGN IN", Internet Explorer will want to "Restart" - click OK.  When the MLXchange login box appears again, enter your MLS login credentials and click "SIGN IN". Internet Explorer will reload and MLXchange should open for your use.
