Since the mid-1990's State-Wide MLS and its web development division, REALTOR Communication Services (RCS), have been maintaining a consumer-view of MLS through Rhode Island Living (www.riliving.com). Although it is MLS' intention to continue to operate this web site, in an effort to increase the traffic of consumers visiting Member web sites looking for property, MLS is allowing for the framing (method by which a web site is displayed within another) of Rhode Island Living's "Property Search" tools and listing reports. By completing the appropriate license agreement and adhering to the required terms, Members can display all listings found in our organization's public web site on their own site without having to maintain the listing database.

Benefit - no cost/no maintenance solution.
Negative - no branding or customization options for the subscriber.

Although still framing RI Living, "SmartFraming" adds a level of Member branding within this product. Unlike simply framing RI Living which will display the results of a search by a consumer in order by price, SmartFraming will display the search results with the agent or office listings (depending on if it is an agent site or an office site) displayed first, along with their respective company logo. Further, additional contact information related to the site's owner will be integrated within every listing display.

Some State-Wide MLS Members already have taken advantage of Internet marketing by having robust web sites created by professional web developers in order to capture hopefully the growing population of web-based consumers. Since framed solutions do not always fit well within an existing site's conceptual design, Members are allowed to incorporate certain 'raw' listing data into their site's design scheme. Although re-typing this data is an option, an easier method is to export the data from MLXchange using that system's inherent custom report and spreadsheet utilities into their site.

Benefit - high customization solution.
Negative - advanced technical knowledge needed, resource intensive - possible high costs related to the integration of the data by a web developer.

ONLY AVAILABLE TO BROKERS - For those Members looking to incorporate raw listing data into their site, but have tools available to them to automate this process, Data Pipeline is an alternative to the labor-intensive export from MLXchange. Data Pipeline is an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) site which will be updated daily with the most recent IDX listing data and photos.
