Types of Membership - Out-of-State Member

There are two types of MLS memberships:

  • IN-STATE - Your membership is considered IN-STATE if you are a primary or secondary member of a local board in Rhode Island (i.e. - RIAR Member).
  • OUT-OF-STATE - Your membership is considered OUT-OF-STATE if you are NOT a primary or secondary member of a local board in Rhode Island. (i.e. - NOT a RIAR Member)

Benefits of Out of State Membership:

  • MLS Listing and Change Forms
  • Listing and Renewal Fees
  • Universal Access to MLXchange
  • Tech Support
  • RILiving.com Office/Agent Web Services
  • Rental Listing Database

Also included for an additional charge are the following RIAR benefits:

  • RIAR “paper” forms for purchase

Please note: To receive the additional RIAR benefits (listed to the left) you must also be a member of the RI Association of REALTORS®. To apply, please complete the application for R.I.A.R. Secondary Membership - $148.50 Annually

Prerequisite: The principal/manager of the firm must have a brokers license or Appraisal license and be a REALTOR® member of:

- A Local Board of REALTORS®
- The National Association of REALTORS®, Inc.

Step 1: Complete your "Agreement to Participate"
  • Complete the “Agreement to Participate” and be sure the principal/manager and all owners of the firm sign it.
  • Have the application signed by an officer of your Local Board of REALTORS® certifying that you are paid-in-full, member in good standing with your Local Board of REALTORS®.
  • Submit a list of all RI Licensees in office with MLS Application as required.
Step 2: Attend MLS Orientation
  • Upon receipt of your fully signed “Agreement to Participate” – MLS will contact you with the schedule for the MLS New Agent Class. The purpose of this 5 hour class is to acquaint you and your agents with the MLS Rules and Regulations, required forms, policies/procedures and “hands-on” review of our MLXchange Software. You will also be receiving a packet containing the required forms. Your office administrator will be required to take a class as well. Please provide us with the administrator’s information when returning this agreement.
Step 3: Apply for RIAR Secondary Membership (optional)
To receive the following additional benefits you must also be a member of the RI Association of REALTORS®. To apply, please complete the application for RIAR Secondary Membership - $148.50 Annually
  • Transit – Transaction Manager and RIAR Forms (ie., RI Disclosure forms, Sales Agreements, etc)
  • RIAR “paper” forms for purchase
  • RI Living Email account ($5/month)
  • On staff Legal Counsel
